Chin Up

The Chin up exercise is performed on a chin up bar and it works the Lats, the mid back, and front of the arms

Primary Muscles:    Latissimus dorsi, Teres major

Secondary Muscles:

Biceps brachii



Mid trapezius


Lower trapezius



Starting Position

  • Reach up and grasp the bar with an underhand grip
  • Hang from the bar and gently cross your feet behind you

Exercise Movement

  • Pull your body up until your chin is above the bar
  • Pause briefly, then lower your body to the start under control
  • Repeat as necessary keeping the movement smooth and continuous
