Press ups

The press up exercise is a bodyweight exercise that works the chest, front of shoulders and back of arms

Primary Muscle(s):     Pectoralis major

Secondary Muscle(s): Anterior deltoid, Triceps brachii

Starting Position – Box Position

  • Place your hands and knees on the floor
  • Hands shoulder width apart, knees under hips

Starting Position – ¾ Position

  • Place your hands and knees on the floor
  • Hands shoulder width apart, knees behind hips
  • Form a straight line from your head down to your knees

Starting Position – Full Position

  • Hands on the floor, shoulder width apart
  • Legs straight and feet together on the floor

Exercise Movement

  • Bend at elbows to lower body towards floor
  • Return slowly to starting position by pushing your body back up
  • Repeat as necessary keeping the movement smooth and continuous
